Consultant Perinatal Psychiatrist

Course Director

Dr Liz McDonald is a retired consultant perinatal psychiatrist who played a key role in developing and delivering perinatal mental health services in East London, England.

She is former Chair of both the Perinatal Faculty Royal College of Psychiatrists and the Pan-London Perinatal Mental Health Clinical Network; past executive member of the Independent Advisory Group for MBRRACE, the Perinatal Quality Network Advisory Committee and the Association for Infant Mental Health UK; and medical advisor to Maternal OCD. Her interest in the training and education of perinatal psychiatrists lead to her becoming the founding and later joint Clinical Lead at the Royal College of Psychiatrists for the development of the perinatal mental health workforce. This role led to establishing the Perinatal Psychiatry Masterclass programme and developing a pilot credential in perinatal psychiatry. She initiated training in perinatal mental health for senior trainees and consultants at the Royal College of Obstetrics and Gynaecology and was a visiting lecturer at the Tavistock and Portman NHS Trust.

"Dr McDonald is a confident, enthusiastic and inspiring speaker. Her talk was thought provoking and I particularly benefited from her real life examples as these are what stick the most for me. The content was motivating and cultivated a fresh look at my own practice and area's for improvement."

"Absolutely inspirational and thought provoking, such a wealth of knowledge."

“Beautiful slides paired with an exceptionally relaxed, warm, and effective
presentation style. This lecturer brought a deeply human perspective to
an otherwise highly clinical topic. It was not only
informative but also powerfully empathetic and impactful."
