Dr Maddalena Miele

Consultant Perinatal Psychiatrist

Course Director

Dr Maddalena Miele is a consultant perinatal psychiatrist with an extensive career dedicated to perinatal and infant mental health. She established and led the Perinatal Mental Health Service at St Mary’s Hospital, London, until her retirement from the NHS in 2023.

Her background includes obstetrics and gynaecology, a PhD in neuroscience from the University of Oxford, and specialist training in infant mental health. She is an accredited trainer at the Infant and Family Wellbeing Unit at Warwick University.

Dr. Miele has made significant contributions to the development of perinatal mental health services in the UK. From 2015 to 2022, she chaired the North West London division of the Pan-London Perinatal Mental Health Network (NHS England) and co-authored the Preconception Advice Best Practice Toolkit. She served as Clinical Lead for CNWL Foundation Trust (2017–2020), was a member of the Perinatal Faculty Executive and the Perinatal Quality Network Advisory Group, and acted as the Royal College representative to the Maternal Mental Health Alliance (2015–2018).

She remains active in perinatal and infant mental health training and teaching programmes and is a trustee of Brazelton UK and the Association of Infant Mental Health UK.
